What type of pizza is the best?
By Tony Salducci of GetSomeFood.com
Welcome to my weekly column. My name is Tony Salducci and I am a freelance writer working for GetSomeFood.com and in this first article I will talk about one of my all time favs, pizza. Ok to start who doesn't like pizza? When all else fails we can always make a quick phone call and in about 30 minutes at our door is our trusted friend, that cheesy delight. There are toppings for all tastes and desires. But which type of pizza is the best, that is up for debate, so let's I am going to take a slice at it. Jeesh my tummyy is already grumbling thinking about the possibilities. BRICK OVEN PIZZA - Baked on a wood fired brick oven. Brick oven pizzas are usually only about ten inches in diameter, thin and light on toppings since they are meant to bake in just a minute or two. ITALIAN PIZZA - Oven baked, flat, round bread covered with tomato sauce and mozzarella. Add toppings. CHICAGO STYLE PIZZA - Invented in Chicago. An authentic Chicago pizza will have a buttery crust, plenty of tomato sauce and generous cheese. DEEP DISH PIZZA - Created in 1943 in Chicago and features a thick bread crust, which can be an inch or more deep. FRENCH BREAD PIZZA - Made with French bread cut in half and topped with pizza toppings instead of using a dough pizza crust. GREEK PIZZA - Features an herby base and toppings including mushrooms, broccoli, onion, tomatoes, olives, bell peppers, manouri cheese, mozzarella, basil, and olive oil. GRILLED PIZZA - Cooked on the grill. Now that sounds interesting! Usually the dough is baked first, then it is flipped over, the toppings are added and finish it on a closed grill. NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA - Known for its thin, wide slices. Traditional toppings include mozzarella and tomato and this pizza is light on sauce. The thin, crispy, hand tossed crust is made from high gluten flour and it is common to fold the pizza slices to eat them. New York pizza is made in a coal burning oven which is cooler than a brick oven so the pizza takes longer to cook and can be much bigger. My fav, mmmmm! PAN PIZZA - Thicker crust than many other kinds of pizza. SICILIAN PIZZA - Pecorino cheese and anchovies can be found on a traditional Sicilian pizza. In the United States, a Sicilian pizza is square and has a very thick crust. STUFFED CRUST PIZZA - The outer crust is stuffed typically with cheese. THICK CRUST PIZZA - The Dough rises a little longer. THIN CRUST PIZZA - A crispy, thin crust. VEGETARIAN PIZZA - Veggies, yum! WHITE PIZZA - Pesto or dairy products such as sour cream are used instead of tomato sauce. The toppings on a white pizza are often just cheeses and the pizza is drizzled with olive oil, fresh basil, and garlic. Well there it is, all the types of heaven you can imagine. Get me to a phone. As always I need to GET SOME FOOD.

You didn't really answer the question :)

I just realized that, I like them all, how about you?
Actually I owned a pizza place for 23 years so I was pretty partial to mine LOL. I made what you could consider a cross between New York and Chicago style pizza - the middle was relatively thin but the edges were nice and thick. We had a great recipe and we were very successful but after 23 years it was time to move on :)

That sounds really good. I would like to try some, now I am hungry again :) I just created this website, www.getsomefood.com, it is like a mini website for restaurants. I figured that most pizza places don't have a website so for $10 per month they can have one they can update and add specials and coupons. I would love some constructive criticism on the website or some advice from someone that has worked in the industry. Just launched JUly 1 so I could use all the help I can get.
What no breakfast pizza? It has eggs, cheese, sausage and bacon. A great way to start the day. My wife and I learned in Lamaze class that pizza is a recommended health food as it often has all five food groups. And how about Hawaiian Pizza with ham and Pineapple? My Pizza slideshow
